eJournal Week 5

After re-evaluating my ID project, I've decided to continue with the professional development plan.  Instead of administrators, I will teach a practicum workshop to the practicum teachers.  By the end of the professional development, teachers will be able to:

  •        identify state requirements of a practicum course
  •        identify best practices to maximize the practicum experience
  •        develop a flow chart of the classroom requirements prior to practicum experience
  •        evaluate current constraints from previous students with the practicum courses

d    To answer the major components which are Motivation, Perequisite and Subskills, Practice and Feedback, I've included a section of my project that cover these areas.

DESIGN

Below is the presentation and videos I will use to guide the professional development.  Teachers will be broken into 6 groups of 5 or 6 teachers to a group.  The groups will allow the teachers to collaborate on various group activities throughout the professional development.  Each group will select a photo of a student which on the back will have a short description of their CTE pathway and location of their internship.  This will allow practicum teachers to learn more about various internships we have in our program.  The main purpose of selecting these photos is to later evaluate the scenario of that student and collaborate on a resolution to the problem.  The professional development will be the following:

·      What do I Already Know
o   Group activity to list as much as they can about the practicum course
o   Video 1 on a student internship
·      Intern Processes & Paperwork Overview
o   Group activity to create a flow chart of required paperwork for the internship
o   Video 2 on a student internship
·      Intern Experience Reflections
o   Group activity on practicum student scenarios
o   Group will act out scenarios and give a brief presentation or demonstration over resolution
·      What’s Wrong with My Resume
o   Group will be given several resumes that have errors
o   Group will present on what errors were made
o   Video 3 on a student internship

The length of the professional development could be a variety of one full day workshop or a 5-day workshop.  It will depend on if it will be use on a professional development day, part of a professional development day or a required afterschool meeting.

DEVELOPMENT
Teachers will be given instructions for the group activities.  The first group activity will allow teachers to list what they already know about the practicum course and internships.  This will allow them to discuss what they already know or what they think they know.  Also, it will help newer teachers understand more about what’s going on.  When each group shares, it will allow all of them to gain a better understanding of the practicum course.  The second group activity will allow teachers to create a timeline and checklist of what’s needed in order for a student to be successful in the course and in the internship.  As each group shares, we will vote and adopt the best flow chart to use.  The third group activity will allow teachers to see a specific issue that they will discuss and resolve as a group.  As each group presents their scenario all of the teachers can lesson and reflect on all of the scenarios.  The final group activity will allow teachers to comment on resumes and understand the importance of great resume writing.  The teachers will get actual resumes of students and discuss in their groups what’s missing and what does not need to be there.  They will also fix the resumes as a group.  The videos in between the workshop and activities will reinforce the importance and the opportunities our students have in the practicum course.
